FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A Fairbanks man is dead and a child is in serious condition after a two-vehicle collision on the Parks Highway yesterday (mon) afternoon.
Alaska State Troopers received a report of a collision at mile 329 of the highway, between Fairbanks and Nenana near Skinny Dick's Halfway Inn.
They say their investigation revealed 46-year-old Shawn Masterson was traveling northbound on the highway in a 2002 Ford Explorer when he lost control of his S-U-V and crossed into the opposite lane.
His vehicle was struck by a southbound pickup truck driven by 52-year-old Thomas Monicken, also of Fairbanks.
Masterson was pronounced dead on scene by first responders, and a minor in his vehicle was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Monicken had minor injuries; he was also taken to F-M-H and later released.
Masterson's next of kin has been notified.
Troopers say their investigation is ongoing.
