Chena Hot Springs Road Collision Leaves One Dead, One Injured

A head-on collision yesterday at mile 6 of Chena Hot Springs Road leaves one woman dead and another man seriously injured.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., a motorist called 911 to report a collision.

The Alaska State Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the scene and found 33-year-old Sarah Lawrence dead after being pinned in wreckage.

Her car was in the ditch on the westbound side of the highway.

81-year-old Lawrence Duffy was inside an overturned truck on the eastbound side of the roadway.

According to the trooper dispatch, the initials scene investigation showed Duffy was driving left of the double yellow center line when he collided with Lawrence's vehicle in the inside westbound lane.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drug impairment was a factor.
