FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Boys and Girls Club of Fairbanks opened its new Teen Center Wednesday night.
The ribbon cutting took place around 7pm, with a short speech from the Executive Director, and another by City Mayor Jim Matherly.
Borough Mayor Karl Kassel also turned out to celebrate this new addition to City Hall.
The project began in July of 2017 thanks in part to many generous sponsors, and a work station built by students at UAF.
Mayor Matherly expressed his sentiments at having the Boys and Girls Club in City Hall, saying it was a wonderful sound hearing the children laughing and playing throughout the day.
Deison Rios, Executive Director for the Boys and Girls Club, talked about why they decided to expand and build the Teen Center.
Mayor Jim Matherly; City of Fairbanks>>: "It is my honor to dedicate this new space, as the Teen Center. So if I could have a round of applause please for your Teen Center."
Deison Rios; Executive Director for Boys and Girls Club of Fairbanks>>:
"I came from our teenagers. They have been wanting a space that is just their own for a really, really long time."
