Borough Air Quality Re-Classified From 'Moderate' To 'Serious'

The Fairbanks North Star Borough has been reclassified as a "serious" non-attainment area for fine particulate air pollution by the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

The rating was previously listed as 'moderate'.
The change means more restrictions will be required in order for the borough to meet federal air quality standards.
What those restrictions might be has yet to be determined.
A plan will be submitted to the Fairbanks north star borough assembly for its consideration.
The State of Alaska will be required to submit a 'serious air quality' plan for Fairbanks by December 31st of this year.
