Bomb Threat Scare Turns Out To Be Package Holding Chess Board

Employees of a Wells Fargo branch in Fairbanks received quite the surprise today.

At approximately 9:40 this morning, the Fairbanks Police Department received a call of a suspicious package in the parking lot of the Wells Fargo on College Road.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians from Fort Wainwright were also contacted to deal with the potential bomb threat.

After further examination of the package, it was determined not to be a bomb, but a chess board.

Sergeant Bruce Barnett with FPD says it's still unknown who dropped off the chess pieces.

"A person or persons driving a red sedan entered the parking lot, put the package in the middle of the parking lot and drove off. A bank employee notified FPD of this suspicious package."
