Aurora Shooting Victim Dies; Charges Updated First-Degree Murder

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - 26-year-old Jasmine Lynn States, who was hospitalized after the shooting, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
The man who police say shot her, 19-year-old Benjamin Akaran, is now charged with murder in the first degree.
Law enforcement and E-M-S arrived on scene after receiving a call from a male saying a friend of his had been shot, and the shooter had fired at him as well.
Akaran was reportedly seen at the entrance of Randy Smith Middle School.
The school was in lockdown at the time and Akaran was unable to access the building.
He was eventually detained around 1 P-M at a Yale Way residence.
Akaran was originally charged with two counts of attempted murder and three counts of probation violation in the incident.
