Monday morning, teachers were greeted with a positive picketing line as they walked into Lathrop's Hering Auditorium on this first week of the school year.

The Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce Education and Workforce Development Committee arranged for volunteers consisting of locals, members of the United Way of the Tanana Valley, and politicians to greet incoming teachers and support staff.

The purpose of the positive picketing was to show community support for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District teachers and staff by providing upbeat messages as they prepare for the new year.
The volunteers showed up at 7:30 AM and picketed in the breezy overcast conditions until the speeches commenced in the auditorium.
Locally owned, Bagels and Brew provided coffee and bagels for the volunteers.
