FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Fairbanks' very own Division 1 Basketball Star Ruthy Hebard may be receiving some National Recognition at the end of the season.
Yesterday Hebard was announced to the Watch List for the 2018 Naismith Award.
The Naismith is an annual award given to the top Men's and Women's basketball players in the country.
Yesterday the NCAA Announced who could receive the award, and Hebard was named among the 50 players.
Hebard, the standout from The University of Oregon who graduated from West Valley High School, was one of only 5 underclassmen to be named to the list.
She is also among seven representatives from the Pac-12.
Hebard has already made a name for herself as an Oregon Duck.
She scored 551 points as a freshman last year and already has 96 this season. She is also a force to be reckoned with at the boards as she has 371 rebounds.
The All-Conference Forward was also named to the Watch list for the McClain award earlier this year, which will honor the top Power Forward in NCAA Women's Basketball.
If Hebard wins the award at the end of the season, she will be the first Alaskan to earn that honor and the first sophomore since UCONN's Breanna Stewart in 2014.
