Valdez Buccaneers and Lathrop Malemutes split Double-header; West Valley and Monroe Catholic Victorious in tournament openers

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Time for a quick rundown of the High School Basketball games for our Interior schools.
Here at home, the Valdez Buccaneers came to town and split a double-header with the Lathrop Malemutes.
The Girls game saw the Malemutes win it 53-42.
The Tyra Do show was in full effect as the Senior led both teams in scoring with 21 points.
She is only 16 away from 1,000 career points.
The Boys game saw the Bucs dominate for a 71-29 win. Bennet Hinkle led Valdez with 26 points while Derek Life led the Malemutes with 9.
The West Valley Wolfpack were in action in the Alaska Airlines Classic at West Anchorage High School.
The boys were able to win their first game in the tourney 53-51 over West before dropping a 58-51 contest to the Columbia Eagles, who were visiting from Georgia.
Cornelius Mingo Jr. Led both teams in scoring in both games, dropping 20 points against West and 16 against Columbia.
Up in Utqiagvik the Monroe Catholic Rams were able to overcome a scoreless third quarter to get past the East Anchorage Thunderbirds 58-57 in the first round of the Whaler Classic.
Izak Lohrke led the Rams with 22 points. They will continue the Whaler Classic today against Juneau-Douglas.
