FAIRBANKS, Alaska - It was a tough first round for our interior teams in the ASAA Football State Championship Playoffs.
For the first time since 2013, the Eielson Ravens will not be playing in the Division 3 State Championship game.
The Ravens fell to the Peninsula Conference Champion Homer Mariners in their Semifinal Contest.
The Ravens were down 21-0 at halftime, but they did not go quietly into the night as they fought back to make it a 27-21 game in the third quarter.
However, Homer was able to hang on for the 33-21 win.
Payton DeVaughn threw for 2 touchdowns and Jiro Dobashi-Noa ran one in for the Ravens.
The Dirty Birds will finish the year at 6-3 and will say good-bye to their 3 seniors as they prepare for next season.
Our division 2 representative North Pole Patriots also fell in their semi-final game to the Soldotna Stars.
SoHi was able to win this one 35-12 to win their 58th game in a row and advance to yet another State Championship.
Seniors accounted for North Pole's scores in their last game as Patriots.
Quarterback Craig Borba found Jamie Johnson in the Endzone for a 22 yard Touchdown pass, and Andrew Gaines ran in a one yard score in the fourth quarter.
The Patriots will finish the year at 6-3.
The Lathrop Malemutes also fell in their Quarter-final game against the Bartlett Bears.
Bartlett won this one 55-25.
Chateau Reed ran back the opening kickoff for the Malemutes to give them a 7-0 lead early, but they just couldn't hold Bartlett back.
Jace Henry earned two scores and Zach Kosa kicked a field goal.
Quarterback Josh Hernandez put on a great performance for his final game as a Malemute.
He went 14 of 29 through the air for 206 yards.
Lathrop will finish the year at 3-6.
Now Homer and Barrow will play for the Division 3 state title.
SoHi and Palmer will play for the division 2 title in a rematch from last year.
And the Division 1 playoffs are still ongoing.
East will play West in one semifinal and Bartlett will take on the Undefeated Chugiak Mustangs in the other.
The winner of those games will play for the Division 1 state championship on October 20th.
