FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Now It's time for me to say something that I haven't had to say since December 2nd, 2017.
The Fairbanks Ice Dogs lost on Saturday night in a shootout against the Shreveport Mudbugs.
The Ice Dogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead near the end of the first period.
It looked like it was going to end as a 1-0 game but Shreveport was able to light the lamp in the third.
Both teams were scoreless in Overtime so they went into a shootout.
The Shootout went to seven rounds but the Dogs were turned away each time.
In that seventh round, Shreveport's Derek Contessa scored to earn the win for his team.
Jack Johnston scored the lone goal for the Dogs while Sam Ruffin provided the assist.
The Mudbugs still have the second best record in the league at 36-9-3-2 overall while the Dogs are still the winningest team in the NAHL at 39-5-3-2.
The Dogs will return to the friendly confines of the Big Dipper Ice Arena on Friday and Saturday when they host the Springfield Jr. Blues.
