Besh Cup Series Makes Unexpected Start in the Interior

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Opening weekend for the Conoco Phillips Besh Cup Series was supposed to start in Anchorage this year.
But due to the conditions of the trails, the first two races were held here in Fairbanks.
It started off with the Sprints on Saturday.
John Williamson represented the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks and won the final heat in the Under-10 Age Group.
Murphy Kimball of Anchorage's Alaska Winter Stars won the Boys Under 12 Final while His teammate Heidi Schumacher won the Girl's Under 12 final.
A-P-U's Maria Nedom won the A Final for the Under 14 girls while Winter Star Meredith Schwarts won the B final.
The Boys Under-14 races saw APU's Rowan Morse win the A final and his teammate Mark Eggener take the B Final.
In the Girls Under-16 races, Garvey Tobin won the Girls A final while Emily Walsh won the B FInal.
The Boys Under 16 races saw Max Beiergrohslein win the A final while Aaron Maves won the B.
The 18 plus Category saw several Skiers from Fairbanks represent APU on their way to victory.
Becca Rorabaugh won the Women's A Final while Sade Fox from UAA won the B.
Two Fairbanks Skiers, Reese Hanneman and David Norris won the A and B finals for the Men.
Norris also won the Men's side of things for Sunday's Distance Races.
He won the Men's 15 Kilometer race, finishing with the top time of 41 minutes and 3 seconds.
Gus Schumacher took second place, finishing just three seconds after Norris, and Eric Packer took third.
Rosie Frankowski from APU won the Women's 10K with a 31 minute, 16 second time.
Becca Rorabaugh took second place, finishing in 32 minutes flat.
The Besh Cup Series is a qualifier for the National Cross-Country Championships and the Arctic Winter Games.
The Cup will resume on January 20th and the 21st, and is scheduled to take place at Lookout Mountain in Homer.
