WASHINGTON (KTVF) - Congressman Don Young has just filed to run for his 24th term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

He is the longest serving Republican, and second longest serving member currently in the U.S. House.

Young filed his declaration of candidacy on Wednesday, just five months since his most recent win.

The primary he signed up to compete in won't be held until August 2018.

The 83-year-old Young has held his seat since 1973.

In a video statement, Young says he filed early so that anyone who might think about running, or who thinks he might retire, "can forget it."
