FAIRBANKS, Alaska - An Anchorage man was killed last night in a crash near Anderson on the Parks Highway.
Alaska State Troopers say that on Monday at 6:10 P-M, dispatchers in Fairbanks got a call reporting a tanker truck had hit a pedestrian on the highway near milepost 280.
They responded to the scene and found that the pedestrian, 22-year-old Sylvester Smith of Anchorage, had been hit by the tanker truck and killed after he got out of his vehicle to help a snow-machiner on the side of the road. Smith is listed as a petroleum engineering student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver didn't suffer any apparent injuries.
Troopers say their investigation is ongoing.
