UAF Great Hall reopens after major renovation

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Regents Great Hall at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has reopened after a months-long renovation.
The great hall has served as one of Fairbanks' largest public forums to host community events for many years.
Earlier this year, facility services on campus had noticed the ceiling was developing leaks associated with the sprinkler system.
Maintenance technicians determined that the entire system was close to corroding, so UAF facility services issued an urgent contract to repair and renovate the entire room.
Facility services replaced and updated the ceilings, sprinklers, walls, and lighting.
Senior project manager, Bob Crenshaw, says the overall project has been under a compressed construction schedule.
Bob Crenshaw; Senior Project Manager, UAF Facility Services>>: "The entire ceiling system was asbestos and had to be abated before we can even get to the sprinklers. So we ended up having to abate and demolish a large amount of the ceiling and the wall systems to even get to the components we needed. A lot of the wall systems were coming apart and were starting to show their wear and tear. And we had to pull all the walls apart to even expose the lighting circuits, plumbing, sprinklers, and so on. And we had to pull the ceiling out."
