Trump administration puts private prisons back in business

The Trump administration has rescinded an executive order by the Obama administration that aimed to phase out private prisons in the U.S.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions rolled back a guidance by Obama's Attorney General, Sally Yates, which directed the Bureau of Prisons not to renew contracts with private prisons.

Sessions wrote that the order (quote) "...impaired the Bureau's ability to meet the future needs of the federal correctional system..."

A corporation called GEO Group operates four halfway house facilities in Alaska, including the Northstar Center in Fairbanks.
