Tourism conference spotlight Fairbanks more visitors coming

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Alaska is a favorite destination for tourists from all over the world, offering a multitude of activities to enjoy throughout the year.
Nearly a hundred companies from Alaska's visitor industry gathered in the Westmark Gold Room today for the 10th annual Explore Alaska Tourism Conference.
Among those in attendance there were multiple hotel groups, tour companies, and some local shops.
The conference started at 8:30 this morning and ran all day, hosting speakers such as President of Explore Alaska, Deb Hickok, and Vice President of Relations for Holland Cruises, Ralph Samuels.
Hickok talked about how the Tourism Conference came to be, while Samuels announced some exciting news for the upcoming year.
Deb Hickok; President and CEO or Explore Fairbanks>>: "We decided that there are opportunities for other conferences around the state, there is a statewide Alaska Travel Industry Association conference, but we really wanted to bring it to Fairbanks and really hone in on Fairbanks' data and Fairbanks' conversations about tourism development."
Ralph Samuels; Vice President of Government and Community Relations for Holland America Group>>: "So in 2018, Princess has brought another ship across the Gulf of Alaska, which is the one that feeds up into Denali and Fairbanks, and that is probably another 50 or 60 thousand people that are going to be coming to the rail belt area, and additionally in 2019, we will be replacing a smaller ship with a larger ship, so that will bring in even more."
