The man accused of shooting his estranged wife pleaded guilty to first degree murder on Friday and is expected to be sentenced to 50 years behind bars.
According to court documents, in March of 2015, 35-year-old Russell Burris allegedly shot 21-year-old Mandy Clemmons at his mother's home.
Burris then reportedly covered Clemmons with a tarp and attempted to commit suicide by overdosing on Tylenol.
The couple was married but never filed paperwork; they also shared a 7-month-old child together.
As part of the plea deal, the state agreed not to play audio evidence of the crime in open court.
Burris' sentencing is set for January of 2018.
