Preview of the FNSB Candidate Open House

The Fairbanks North Star Borough is holding a Candidate Open House this weekend for those considering running for local office.
The local Municipal Clerks will host the event Saturday, July 8th at 10 A-M in the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly Chambers at 907 Terminal Street.
Clerk staff will be available to answer questions about running for local office.
Borough Assembly and School Board, the Interior Gas Utility Board, and the City Councils of Fairbanks and North Pole all have open spots to fill.
The candidate filing period will open July 17, and close on July 31.
The 2017 regular Municipal Election will take place on Tuesday, October 3rd.
Borough Clerk, Nanci Ashford-Bingham, emphasized how important local officials are for the community.
"We're just here to help the citizenry and hopefully we engage folks that are interested in running for local office, because it's a very important thing for our community, to get more folks involved in our community. The nice thing about local government is you can reach out and talk to your local representatives on a daily basis. They live here in our community, 24/7 and the citizens are able to come and talk to assembly members at every assembly meeting, you have that engagement."
Join us next week when we'll hear from residents who attended this open house, and are looking to take up office.
