New downtown committee will aim to use public input to produce downtown planning

Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Karl Kassel is organizing a new committee of ten people to help create a new plan for downtown Fairbanks.

Members will be announced in the next few weeks.
The group's task is to produce a new plan based on public input regarding what citizens want to see downtown.

The public input will be taken through meetings, surveys and a project website.

The plan is expected to be more generic than the current 'Vision Fairbanks Downtown Plan', which is in the process of being repealed.

Christine Nelson, director of the Borough's Community Planning Department, said it's everyone's downtown, adding "We want to make more of what people like to do and want to do."
