Name Released of Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Alaska State Troopers have released the name of officer who fatally shot 38 year old Eric Hash of Copper Center.
TROOPERS SAID TODAY THAT HASH ADVANCED TOWARD THE TROOPER WITH WHAT THEY DESCRIBE AS AN 'INCAPACITATING FLAMMABLE LIQUID' IN HIS HAND.
THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL TRYING TO IDENTIFY EXACTLY WHAT THAT FLAMMABLE LIQUID WAS... BUT WE DO KNOW THAT THE TROOPER WAS OUTSIDE HIS VEHICLE WHEN HE FIRED HIS SERVICE WEAPON.
TODAY, THAT TROOPER WAS IDENTIFIED AS KAMAU LEIGH, A SIX YEAR VETERAN OF THE DEPARTMENT.
TROOPERS RESPONDED TO A 911 CALL EARLY FRIDAY MORNING, REPORTING HASH HAD ASSAULTED A FAMILY MEMBER.
WHEN THE FIRST TROOPER ARRIVED ON SCENE, A-S-T SAYS HE ENCOUNTERED HASH APPROACHING HIS VEHICLE WITH THE FLAMMABLE LIQUID CONTAINER, AND SUBSEQUENTLY OPENED FIRE.
HASH'S FAMILY THINKS THE SITUATION ESCALATED TOO QUICKLY.
TROOPERS SAY THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.
Kiana & Modawn/Hash's daughters:
"The neighbors heard the cops um show up with their sirens, and immediately as soon as he pulled up he shot the gun and... four times, no warnings no commands," said Kiana and Modawn, Hash's daughters.
"Investigation is ongoing, following the process we think is really important and we will make sure that the investigation is conducted completely and thoroughly, that's an obligation and a commitment we have to the people of Alaska," said Jonathon Taylor, DPS.
TROOPER LEIGH WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN A FATAL SHOOTING IN FAIRBANKS IN 2015, IN WHICH THE SUSPECT FIRED AT POLICE DURING A PURSUIT.
AFTER THE SUSPECT CRASHED, OFFICERS RETURNED FIRE... KILLING THE SUSPECT.
