Mental Health Training Helps Residents Cope with Depression, Anxiety

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Members of the community met at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for a Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Workshop.

The goal of this training is to help adults recognize when a child or teenager may be experiencing mental health issues such as depression or anxiety, and provide them the help they need.
The training teaches those in charge how to approach someone they may feel is at risk, without scaring them away or making them feel invalidated.
The groups went through different scenarios that parents, teachers, and counselors may go through when a child or teen is experiencing a mental health crisis.
They then discussed ways to help that person.
