Memorial Day marks unofficial start to summer

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Summer is right around the corner and with the Memorial Day weekend coming up, people are excited to get out and enjoy the sun.
This weekend marks the unofficial start to the summer season and Pioneer Park is filled with both tourists and locals.
Kids like Dallas are excited to be out and jumping on their trampolines, while residents like Kirsten Morlan are excited for family activities, “Spending time with my kids and grandkids and riding my horses.”
Even the tourists are having fun exploring the interior, “I'm most excited about, one coming to Alaska because I'm from Nebraska and coming to Alaska has been really fun.”
The park is open now for people to come and enjoy but the official opening will be this weekend and the staff here at Pioneer Park have loads of events going on to celebrate.
