Embattled legislator resigns under cloud of sexual misconduct allegations

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Embattled Alaska Representative Dean Westlake announced today he will resign in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct.
Westlake, a Democrat from Kiana, came under fire earlier this month when several women went public with allegations that he sexually harassed them.
One of the women was a staffer for Interior Representative Scott Kawasaki.
Leadership of Westlake's caucus called for him to resign after the allegations became public, but he publicly insisted as recently as Wednesday that he would not step down.
He reversed himself today in a letter apologizing to the women and his constituents, saying he will resign from the Legislature.
