Democrats nominate candidates to replace Rep. Fansler

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Bethel Democrats have put forward three nominees to replace Representative Zach Fansler, who resigned after allegations that he assaulted a woman in January.
Under state law, when a member of the Legislature resigns, members of party leadership in his or her district put forth names for a potential replacement, whom the governor takes under advisement when choosing a nominee.
The governor's pick must be confirmed by a majority of the resigned legislator's colleagues who belong to the same party.
Nominees to replace Fansler include Yvonne Jackson, who works as a Tribal Workforce Development Director for the Association of Village Council Presidents; Raymond "Thor" Williams, a Bethel city council member and school board member; and Tiffany Zulkosky, vice president of communications for the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation.
The governor now has 10 days to decide on his nominee.
