FAIRBANKS, Alaska - 35-year-old George Mat-veev, 39-year-old Sam Tip-i-kin, and 37-year-old Leo Tip-i-kin set out on a day trip last Friday, but high winds and rough seas forced them ashore on remote Chenega (Cheh-*NEE-ga) Island.
They were stranded on the island for three days and ate kelp while they attempted to contact friends and family on shore.
On Monday, a Coast Guard crew searching for the men found them taking shelter in a cabin on the island.
They were transported to Seward, and plan to return to bring back their boat when the weather is calmer.
