As state's First Lady visits, after-school programs worry about funding

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - While visiting Fairbanks, First Lady Donna Walker toured Joy Elementary as an Honorary Chair of the Alaska Children's Trust Board of Directors.
Board members of the ACT from Fairbanks and across the state met at the Elementary school, yesterday, with the First Lady.
The ACT board is an advocacy group for preventing statewide child abuse and neglect.
Director of the Alaska Afterschool Network, Thomas Azzarella and Joy Elementary After School Program Coordinator, Marilyn Eggleston lead the tour visiting and observing students participating in the program.
In the wake of a recent continuing budget act passing, Azzarella says that although 20 thousand kids will be able to participate in after school programs, the fight to keep funding is wearing on the industry.
