The U.S. Department of the Interior announced today that Alaska will receive $850 thousand dollars in federal grants for parks and outdoor recreation.

The money will come from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which comes from revenue raised by offshore oil and gas leasing.

A total of $94.3 million dollars is being distributed from the fund this year to each of the US states and territories, as well as the District of Columbia.

Since the inception of the fund, the Interior Department says more than $4.1 billion dollars has been made available to state and local governments to fund more than 42,000 projects throughout the nation.
