Alaska National Guard members deploy to Texas to aid in hurricane relief

Governor Bill Walker has extended an offer of assistance to Texas Governor Greg Abbott to help in the Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.

In a statement released Tuesday, the governor said he'd reached out Monday to offer support.

The governor's statement comes on the heels of material aid already heading to Texas from the Last Frontier.

Yesterday, Alaska National Guard personnel from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage took off to help out in the Houston area.
About 20 guard members from the 249th Airlift Squadron and the 212th Rescue Squadron headed south Monday morning to assist with recovery, response, and rescues.
