On Thursday evening, the Alaska House of Representatives passed a budget proposal and gavelled the special session to a close.
The Senate showed clear opposition to the House proposal the entire legislature session, and chose to gavel out of session without voting on the House proposal.
Governor Walker was unhappy with the House Majority's decision to pass through their own version of a budget and gavel the special session.
“We were surprised by the House Majority’s actions tonight. They did not get the job done for Alaska. A compromise is required to protect Alaskans and put the state on a stable fiscal path."
Governor Walker will call for a second special session on Friday to broker a deal on an operating budget before the July 1st government shutdown.
