Scott Kawasaki files to run for Senate against Pete Kelly

In local politics, Representative Scott Kawasaki has made it official- next year, he will challenge sitting Alaska Senate President Pete Kelly.

Kawasaki is a Democrat and Kelly is a Republican, and the two men have often disagreed publicly on matters of state policy.
Kawasaki filed to run for the Senate earlier this year. But he was cagey about which seat he was seeking until he recently amended his filing to show he'll be running against Kelly.

Kawasaki has served five terms in the State House, beginning in 2007.
Kelly has served in the Senate since 2013- he earlier served in the State House and Senate from 1995 to 2003.
