FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 2017 Coat Drive sponsored by The United Way of the Tanana Valley, Madden Real Estate Fairbanks, Keller Williams, Walmart, and KTVF11 ended Sunday, October 8th.
For the last three weeks Fairbanks citizens dropped off coats, hats, scarves and other winter gear at the participating businesses to keep those in need warm as the temperature drops.
The local office of The United Way was full of piles of winter gear waiting to be sorted and distributed.
Executive Director, Bill Wright, shared how the annual coat drive allows anyone to donate unused winter gear from their closet.
Bill Wright; Executive Director, United Way of the Tanana Valley>>: "The coat drive has been going on for several years now and year after year, Madden Real Estate, KTVF, and Walmart come together to support our community in this way. It's a very tangible way to support the community. People from all walks of life, no matter where you are, when you are, are able to support others by providing things that they might not even be using. That's the beauty of the coat drive, you can imagine individuals, when you see these coats you can imagine actual individuals using them and putting them to good use and keeping themselves warm and safe this coming winter."
