Icy roads cause accidents, spur warnings

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Icy roads today in the Fairbanks and North Pole area sent several motorists into the ditch and prompted a warning from police.
Police issued an alert this afternoon after four accidents occurred in less than a half-hour on the northbound Richardson Highway between Badger Road and Fairbanks.
In most of the accidents, vehicles didn't hit each other, but lost control because of slick conditions and slid off the roadway.
Police say that as temperatures remain in the high 20s for the next few days, the roads will stay slick and treacherous - particularly in high-traffic areas and at intersections.
They say to slow down, drive defensively, and keep headlights on at all times.
