Tom Hewitt is News Director for KTVF 11 and KXDF 13. Born and raised in the Interior, he attended Lathrop High School and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His journalism career has taken him to locations as far afield as Iraq, Indonesia and Guam, but he’s most at home telling the stories that take place here in the Golden Heart City.
After a stint as editor for UAF’s student-run newspaper, the Sun Star, Tom began his professional journalism career in 2011 at KXDF News 13 as a government, politics and court reporter. In 2014, he went to work for the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, where he spent three years as the paper’s opinion editor. He returned to TV as News Director for KTVF and KXDF in 2017.
Tom believes strongly in the importance of a free press and its role in keeping people informed. Since 2015, he has served on the board of directors of the Alaska Press Club, a nonprofit group that serves as an umbrella organization for Alaska media outlets on matters of First Amendment rights and training for journalists.
