The public is invited to the play "Tahirih" (TAH-heh-ray), a story of a Persian heroine, poet, and women's rights activist who was killed for her beliefs. The one-woman performance by Nava Bastani will be presented Sunday August 13 at 2:00 pm, at the pavilion at the Chena Wayside, entrance at 3550 Geraghty Avenue (off University, just north of University's intersection with Airport Way).
Born in 1814, Tahirih (TAH-heh-ray) is remembered for her renowned skill as a poet in Persia, what is now known as Iran. She was a women’s rights leader at a time when most women were kept illiterate and hidden from the public sphere.
