Both Patriots soccer teams get a win on first road trip

MANTANUSKA VALLEY-Soccer season is almost here as Interior schools will meet on the pitch hopefully by the end of the month with weather and field conditions permitting. In the meantime teams are traveling for their preseason schedule. The Patriots teams took their first road to trip to the Valley.

The boys team split two games. After falling 7-1 to Wasilla they beat Palmer 4-1. Rapheal Martinez had two goals in the win. For the girls they dropped their first two games 5-0 to Wasilla and a 3-2 loss to Palmer.

Interior seniors represent in last basketball game

ANCHORAGE-Interior high school basketball seniors had their last game in the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Senior All-Star Game last Friday.

It was close in the girls game but the Blue Team Wolves defeated the Golden Bears 84-84. Hutchison's Kiana Edwards scored eight points with three rebounds in the win. Galena's Shaina Burley had six and three boards while Delta's Jess Reiter scored five points and grabbed six boards. Dallas Dickerson of ACS had a game high 24 points.

Ice dogs win game 5 in overtime in advance in NAHL playoffs

FAIRBANKS-The Fairbanks Ice Dogs are moving on the in NAHL playoffs. The Ice Dogs ended a rough and rugged 5 game series on Saturday night with a 3-2 win in overtime over Kenai River. You couldn't write up a better finish in Hollywood.

In the first Wyatt Ege's power play goal, his third score of the series tied it at one a-piece. Hans Gorowsky closed out the first with a goal as Fairbanks went up 2-1. Frankie Spellman of Kenai, his goal in the second period knotted game five at 2-2. That was Spellman's second goal of the night.

A little number crunch before Ice Dogs and Brown Bears game 5

FAIRBANKS-A little stat loaded preview of Saturday night's deciding game five between the Kenai River Brown Bears and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.

Game five will most likely come down to defense for the Ice Dogs. In the two games the Ice Dogs have lost they've allowed three or more goals. When Kenai scores two or less Fairbanks has won.

The barometer of this series has been on special teams. The team that has scored a power play goal has won the game.Kenai is 2-8 on power plays this series while Fairbanks is 2-11.

Ice Dogs game five highlights sports weekend

FAIRBANKS-There are some weekend events for Interior Sports to get into for the second weekend in April. Check out the Arctic Bowl bowling Alley for the Bowl For Kids' Sake event. It's from 10am - 4pm on Saturday.All the money raised from teams goes to Big Brother Big Sisters. Saturday at 11:30 up on the hill is the 20th annual Beat Beethoven 5K race outside of the Patty Center.It's $45 to register tomorrow if you haven't already.You have to finish the 5K before the end of Beethoven's 5th symphony to get a free voucher for a Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra performance.

Kunyk and Parayko named All-Americans

FAIRBANKS-Big news today for Alaka Nanook hockey as two players from the 2013-2014 hockey team were named All-Americans.

Forward Cody Kunyk and defenseman Colton Parayko were both named CCM Division one 2nd team All-Americans today. 

Kunyk, now a member of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning, was the WCHA Player of the Year.  Parayko established himself as one of the top defenders in the league as only a sophomore last year.
