Hendricks win first Denali Dog 140 race

FAIRBANKS-After Sunday's first ever Denali Dog 140 mile race a musher from Two-Rivers comes in the first. Jessica Hendricks won the inaugural Denali Dog 140 in 21 hours and five minutes.

John Schandalmeier is the founder of and race director of this new race. Mushers had a nine dog limit and went 70 miles from the Water's Edge Bed and Breakfast to the Alpine Lodge and Back. There was a six hour mandatory rest at the Lodge.

After Hendricks was Tero Geron (21:46), Karin Hendricksen (22:19), Rae Shorer (22:37) and Tim Muto (23:02) for the top five.

UAF hockey picks up BCHL Viper recruit

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Nanook hockey team recognize their seniors for the last time tonight at their awards banquet. But once a season ends it's time to reload and the Nanooks are doing just that. Colton Sparrow of the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL has committed to UAF for next season.

Sparrow is showing up in the playoffs with 18 points in 15 playoff games including three points in a game seven overtime win for the Vipers. He has 34 points in 50 games this year. Sparrow is also a former teammate of standout rookie Marcus Basara. The two played together in 2011 and 2012 in the BCHL.
