Kriska and Be-Bi Bones Express win tough Yukon 800

FAIRBANKS-This year's Doyon Limited Yukon 800 Marathon race exemplified what is dubbed the toughest riverboat race in the world.

14 riverboat crews set out from Pike's Landing on Saturday and only two made it back to Pike's on Sunday afternoon.

The first boat in was Tom Kriska and the Be-Bi-Bones express. They came in second last year but won it all this year as he was greeted with cheers and hugs from fans and loved ones.

Clinton Huntington and River's Edge were the second crew to make it back to Pike's despite flipping over three times.

Fairbanksan wins 32nd Midnight Sun Run

FAIRBANKS-It was a bit cloudy and a little damp out but that didn't stop almost 3800 people running, walking or just having plain fun in their costumes on the 10K course of the 32nd Midnight Sun Run. It started at the UAF Patty Center and ended right in Pioneer Park.

Chris Eversman of Fairbanks won his first Midnight Sun Run finishing in 34:21. Kyle Hanson was second in 34:36 and Devin McDowell was third in 35:07.

UAF Volleyball's Keri Knight named GNAC Woman of the Year

PORTLAND, OREGON-Today the GNAC Conference announced that UAF's Kerri Knight is their Woman of the Year.

Knight will represent UAF and the GNAC as one of 75 NCAA division two nominees for the honor. Over 400 graduating female student athletes from all divisions were nominated.

From here Knight could make the top 30 which will be voted on in September by the Woman of The Year committee which will take 10 from each division. The NCAA Woman of the Year Award will picked on Oct. 19 from the final nine-three from each division.

Sports events schedule for Midnight Sun weekend

FAIRBANKS-Now here's the rundown for sporting events this summer solstice weekend.

Tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. the ceremonial start of the 54th Yukon 800 riverboat race at Pikes Landing.

In American Legion Baseball the Midnight Sun Baseball Tournament starts at noon. The Fairbanks 49ers play Dimond. Then the 49ers and Alaska Wild at 3 p.m. and West Anchorage against the Wild at 6 pm. ends day one. Those games are on Marlin Field.

At 10 p.m. the 32nd Midnight Sun Run starting at the UAF Patty Center. We'll have live coverage on Saturday.

Goldpanners host Monrachs in 109th Midnight Sun Baseball Game

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Goldpanners will be moving on in their schedule after last night's game cancellation due to rain. Thursday night's game was supposed to be the opener of a four game series with the Lake Eerie Monarchs out of Michigan but that game will not be made up.

Tonight the Panners will get their first look at the Monarchs before playing them in the 109th Midnight Sun Baseball game on Saturday night.

The Monarchs are 3-5 and are coming off consecutive losses to the Anchorage Bucs. Lake Erie is in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League.

Runnning veteran takes first Dusk 2 Dawn run

FAIRBANKS-Well yesterday the rain cancelled the races at the North Pole Speedway and game one of the Goldpanners Midnight Sun series with the Lake Eerie Monarchs. But that didn't stop 13 runners from going out to the Dusk to Dawn run while you were asleep.

Participants braved the rain and wet conditions to run as long as they could in 131 minutes on a 3.5 mile loop starting at UAF's West Ridge Trails. It started at 12:47 am and ended at 2:58 am.

Patrick Sartz, a Dusk to Dawn veteran ran the furthest going 18 miles. Brian Fleming was second in 16.1 miles.

GFRA to have Duel in the Dirt this weekend

FAIRBANKS-The Greater Fairbanks Racing Association will have one of their marquee race dates this weekend. Tonight is day one of their Duel in the Dirt series.

There are $1,000 purses for each race class which include: modified, sprint, legends, sportsman, late models, dollar and mini stock. There will also be sprint time trials Friday and Saturday at 5 pm.

Going into this weekend Scott Sluka is the only leader of his class with breathing room. Sluke leads the modifieds with 296 points and is 30 ahead.

North Pole's Brad Oleson eyes second basketball title in Spain

FAIRBANKS-One Interior native is making his fourth appearance in a Spanish basketball league final. Brad Oleson, who was born in Fairbanks and grew up in North Pole, is playing in the ACB Finals for Barcelona's FCB Regal. They will play Real Madrid for the third straight time for the crown.

Today was game one of the ACB Finals and Oleson contributed five points as Barcelona took game one 98-93. Oleson won a title with Caja Laboral in 2010.

Oleson is a UAF Hall of Famer and has his number retired from Patriots. He even has own day in his honor in North Pole, April 16.
