Alaska cross country team is Division II All-Academic team

FAIRBANKS-On Sunday the Alaska cross country and skiing programs gave out some their individual honors. But first one award from the US Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

The UAF's men's and women's cross country teams were named the Division II All-Academic Teams. Both teams had over 3.3 combined GPAs. The women's team had 3.64 GPA, 8th in all of Div. 2 and the men's 3.45 GPA is ninth in the country.

UAF women's basketball team hands out team awards

FAIRBANKS-The UAF women's basketball team recently handed out their team awards. At their end of the season banquet freshman Jordan Wilson from Henderson, Colorado was named MVP.

Wilson averaged 15.2 points per game along with 7 rebounds playing the 4 and 5. She was also named GNAC Freshman of the Year.

Junior guard Kelly Logue received most inspirational. Logue, a guard led the team in blocks with 16 and was top three on the team in steals and assists.

Preps sports scores from first weekend of spring sports

FAIRBANKS-Here are some other results from this weekend's action for high school Interior teams.

In soccer the West Valley boys' team ties Chugiak 1-1 on Saturday. Tanner Kuhl scored in the last minute of the game to force the tie. Connor Smith had the assist.
The Wolfpack end their 3 game road trip going 0-2-1 after losing to Service and South. They're 1-3-1 on the so far and will play Monroe this Wednesday in the MAC opener.

The Wolfpack girls go 0-3 on their road trip. After falling to South and Service they were shutout by Chugiak on Saturday 3-0.

Ice Dogs win in overtime and punch ticket to Rob Cup semis

WENATCHEE, WASH.-On Saturday night the Ice Dogs righted last year's wrong. After losing to the Wild in last year's game five in Wenatchee Fairbanks flipped the script. After suffering a tough 3-2 in triple overtime on Friday night the Ice Dogs mustered enough energy in game five of the Midwest division final with a 3-2 victory in overtime.

West Valley's Ko gets 2nd at NYO, Ridley sets world records

ANCHORAGE-The 2014 Native Youth Olympics wrapped up competition on Saturday in Anchorage at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center. A number of Interior athletes did well.

Derrick Black from Galena won the seal hop event with a 152 feet 9 and half inch hop. Nenana's Mike Kanuk was second hopping 141 feet one and three quarter inches.
West Valley senior Deenaalee Hodgden tied for third in the one hand reach reaching 52 inches.

Lathrop and Colony cruise in first Region VI track meet

FAIRBANKS-At the end of Saturday's Region 6 track meet. Colony and Lathrop came out on top.

The Colony Knights girls track team won with 230 points. Lathrop was second with 155 and West Valley finished third out of the 10 team field.

On the boys side the Lathrop Malemutes won with 230 points. Colony was second with 145 and West Valley had 103 out of 12 teams.

The Malemutes did damage in throwing. Joe Dickinson won the boys discuss, Damian Coger won shotput, and To'a Levia won girls shotput.

First track and field of year features UAF commit, Lathrop sophmore wins

FAIRBANKS-This afternoon at Lathrop high school was the first all schools track and field meet of the 2014 season. More than 800 student athletes from the Interior and beyond entered into competition for this first meet.

A lot more kids and events going on than last year when it was just abysmal. It was a little brisk today but the kids were able to do some discus and the shot put among other field events.

Hutchison's Justice Lunceford jumped 27'9" and West Valley's David Swenson had a mark of 31'9" in the boys triple jump event.
