The rest of June is busy for runners

FAIRBANKS-Now that spring is here and the summer is just around the corner that means the Interior will have one their running shoes. Here's on outlook for the running events for the rest of June.

Tomorrow at the West Valley High School Trails will be the Kids' Cross Country Races at 6 p.m. starting at the West Valley Soccer Fields. Then this Saturday morning at 10 a.m. you have the 22nd Mosquito Meander 5K at Pioneer Park.

Also this Saturday at 11am in Pioneer Park is bib pick up for the 32nd Midnight Sun Run which is at 10pm on June 21st.

The Phoenix 99 Interior comp soccer team gets a win in California

MORGAN, CALIFORNIA-The Eclipse/Phoenix soccer programs won two golds and three silvers at the Alaska Airlines Cup tournament this past weekend but it's been tough to get wins at the President's Cup in Morgan California.

Yesterday the Eclipse and Phoenix 99 teams lost their tournament openers But today the Phoenix 99 boys played the Rogue Valley Timbers and came back to win 3-2.

New turf fields coming to the Interior in 2015

FAIRBANKS-Yesterday history was made in the Interior off of Davis Road. The Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association, along with local and state officials, had the official ground breaking ceremony for two turf fields at the FYSA Soccer Complex. Talk of turf fields started 10 years ago and finally they'll be in Fairbanks.

The fields are a huge upgrade for the Interior. It will help level the playing field for Interior athletes where as turf fields are the norm around the state.

Goldpanners lose by one in season opener

ANCHORAGE-Tuesday Last night in Mulcahy stadium the Alaska Goldpanners had their first game of the 2014 season against the Anchorage Bucs.

It was scoreless after five innings but the Bucs Garrett Copeland out of Austin Peay would hit what would be the game winning rbi in the bottom of the sixth as the Bucs win 1-0. Anchorage native Mac Gridley playing for Western Oregon went 2-3 scoring the game winning run.

The Bucs had four hits and Alaska had three. Three Anchorage pitchers combined for the shutout.

UAF's Taranto and Alaska Aces win the ECHL Kelly Cup

CINCINNATI-It turns out that winning hockey championships is contagious in the 49th state. The Fairbanks Ice Dogs won the Robertson Cup this season at the Big Dipper and now the state team to the South won a Cup last night.

The Alaska Aces won the ECHL Kelly Cup last night in a 4-0 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on the road ending the Kelly Cup Finals in six games.

It's the third championship for the Alaska Aces franchise. There last Kelly Cup was in 2011 the same season the Ice Dogs won the Robbie Cup.

Goldpanners season starts tonight

FAIRBANKS- The Alaska Goldpanners baseball season starts tonight. The Goldpanners start their 55th season on the road. They take on Anchorage Bucs in Mulcahy Stadium.

Alaska is trying to not only repeat as the Alaska Baseball League Champions but they want to build momentum towards the National Baseball Congress World Series. That runs Jul25-Aug9. The Panners have won six and want to be the first team to win a 7th title.

But first things first the Goldpanners went 35-17-3 in the ABL and won the regular season and tournament titles.

Flaharty wins consecutive Tour of Fairbanks crowns

FAIRBANKS-After the times were calculated from the five stages of this year's Tour of Fairbanks a local cyclist repeats as champion.

Tyson Flaharty of Goldstream Sports won back to back Tour of Fairbanks men's open/expert titles after finishing third in Sunday's Wickersham Dome Race. His overall time was 7 hours 15 minutes and 49.7 seconds. He won stages 1,2,3 and the final stage.
