The Ice Dogs shutout the Wild 2-0 in game three

FAIRBANKS-The only NAHL playoff game on Monday night was at the Big Dipper and it was a critical game three in the Midwest division finals between the Wenatchee Wild and Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Fairbanks shutout the Wild on Monday night 2-0 showing that the Ice Dogs once again can and have won pivotal games.

Game three was highlighted by a goalie getting his second shutout of the postseason and a player coming back from an injury to provide an emotional lift to his team and the Big Dipper fans.

Fairbanks rebounds with a 4-2 win evening the series with the Wild

FAIRBANKS-One could argue that Saturday's game two in the Midwest division finals was a must win for the Ice Dogs 0-2 in any series doesn't look to good. Fairbanks played like it was a game five or game seven Saturday night in the Big Dipper. They were shut out by the Wenatchee Wild 4-0 on Friday night.

Colton Wolter stopped that scoreless streak scoring backhand style for the first goal of game two with the assists from Nick Hinz and Ross Olsson.

West Valley girls win first Interior gymnastics meet since 2012

FAIRBANKS-It's been almost two years but Saturday evening the Interior had its first high school gymnastics meet since 2012. 50 spectators packed into Gymnastics, Inc. off of Lathrop Street for the meet. 19 total gymnasts competed among West Valley, North Pole, Hutchison's Elisabeth Berud and Lathrop.

The Wolfpack would win this first meet with 83.5 points. Lathrop was second with 79.8 followed by North Pole's 76.1.

Local teams stumble in roller derby matches

FAIRBANKS-There was some roller derby action at the Carlson Center on Saturday night. The Raven Rebels and Fairbanks Roller Girls got after it on the flat track. These two division opponents face off with another regular season match left before the state tournament.

The Rebels were the state runner-up last year and both teams trying to build a little momentum before the state tourney. The momentum shifted in favor of the Rebels who led 57-29 at the break and went on to a 114-53 victory over Fairbanks.

Hutchison's Hasting signs NLI for Highline CC

FAIRBANKS-Today at Hutchison High School senior forward Vanessa Hasting signed her national letter of intent. She'll still be a bird. Hasting signed with the Highline Community College Thunderbirds of the NWAACC. Highline is in Des Moines, Washington near Seattle.

The Thunderbirds went 19-11 overall and 10-6 in their division for a birth into the women's tournament. Hasting could face former teammate Mimi Wood who is at Skagit CC. Skagit and Highline played each other last season.

Lathrop soccer teams split season openers

PALMER-The Lathrop girls start their season well winning 2-0 over Colony last night.

The Mutes got two goals in the second half. One by Mikayla Triplehorn and the other from Alexis Shipman. Triplehorn also got the shutout for Lathrop getting a big save in the second half to deny a late rally from the Knights.

The boys were on the opposite side of scoreboard as the Colony boys cruised to a 6-0 victory.

Freshmen goalie Jake Carlson had 20 saves against the no.2 team in Alaska. Both Lathrop squads take on the Wasilla Warriors tonight.
