Early registration deadline for Alaska Internationl Senior Games is July 15

FAIRBANKS-The early bid registration deadline for this year's Alaska International Senior Games is this Tuesday July 15. You can save 15 dollars on registration. The fee to register is $45.00 but you can save a little money.

The AISG starts Aug 8 and runs through the 17. There will be a new free throw contest and 3on3 coed basketball competition with random teams. 14 of the 20 events are qualifiers for next year's 2015 National Senior Game Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Army officer and new UAF swimming coach win Triathlon

NORTH POLE-Today at the Chena Lakes Recreation Area was the North Pole Triathlon. 63 competitors took part in the 1500 meter swim, 40K bike leg and 10K run.

There was a 1 hour and 10 minute cutoff time for swimmers. But all of the swimmers made to shore with a 13 minutes to spare.

Jakub Jiracek was the first man to get back to land in 18:07. Kinsey Apperson the former UAF swimmer and new assistant coach was the first women and second person to finish the swim in 20:13.

Lader wins Run of the Valkyries

FAIRBANKS-Pioneer Park was the site of this year's Run of the Valkyries race. Singing Viking ladies were the actual start gun if you will for this race.

There were plenty of runners out in this morning's sun for the Opera Fairbanks and First National Bank of Alaska 8K race which is the fourth race in the Flint Hills Cup series.

Goldpanners sweep the Oilers in five

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Goldpanners had a chance to sweep the Kenai Peninsula Oilers on Friday night.

In the fifth inning the Goldpanners trailed 3-4 but Tyler Mildenberg the second baseman out of Oregon State put the Panners on top driving in two runs to give the Panners a 6-4 lead.

The Panners kept the momentum going with a four spot in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by Kris Paulino's two run dinger. That was Paulino's second home run of the summer. Jacob Hayes had a big night too going 2-4, a homer, five rbis and four runs scored.

Local boxer will represent Fairbanks in amateur bout in Washington

FAIRBANKS-Francisco Camacho, a West Valley 2007 grad, is going into a major fight this weekend on the amateur boxing circuit in Washington. He's 2-0 in his short career but he almost didn't have a boxing career to speak of.

Kelly Lawson, Camacho's coach, who was an 8 year pro and top 10 in the nation in the super heavyweight class, is also a West Valley grad. He stepped up to help Camacho's mother, Lawson's barber, told him her son was headed down a destructive path.

FAIRBANKS-There's lots to do this weekend and here's the rundown.

Tomorrow at morning at the Chena Lakes Recreation Area in North Pole is the Chena Lakes Triathlon. The 1500 meter swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run beings at 10 a.m. Also at 10am in Pioneer Park is the Opera/Fairbanks Run of the Valkyries. That's an 8K race.

The Goldpanners open their series against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots this weekend. Sat at 7 p.m. and a twin bill on Sunday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Panners sweep Oilers in double header

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Goldpanners are just in a groove offensively against the Kenai Peninsula Oilers.

In last night's double header the Panners won game one 11-5 despite Kenai's 14 hits. Hunter Villanueva and Tanner Pinkston both hit homers and another pair of Panners did the same in game two.

Cody Nulph and Vahn Bozohian had solo jacks giving them both five home runs this season.

Trettel and Todd win again on Thursday night in North Pole

FAIRBANKS-Last night at the North Pole Speedway a good crowd was on hand for a good cause. There were a number of race fans who came out for Relay Night. Half of the admissions went to support Relay for Life Fairbanks. A few cancer survivors walked around the track as well.

As far as the races Destiney Todd continues to improve in her second year. She swept the two heats and the main event and now leads the Bandos by 117 points.
