West Valley boys and Lathrop girls lead All-MAC soccer selections

FAIRBANKS-The high school soccer season ended this weekend and the all Mid Alaska Conference players were released.

The state bound West Valley Wolfpack boys team had four selections to lead the Interior.

Harry Simpson, Connor, Smith, Brayden Dewees, Olav Tchegeownta and Tanner Kuhl were all-MAC for the Wolfpack.

North Pole was represented by Josh Million, Curtis Gelineau, Garrett Wollman, and Rapheal Martinez.

Braeden Hoppough, Aude Robinson were all-MAC for Lathrop. Christian Shurr was all conference for Hutch.

Malemutes roll in softball, West Valley eliminated from state berth

FAIRBANKS-This morning at the South Davis Fields the Lathrop Malemutes hosted the Colony Knights in a Railbelt conference softball game.

Cale Hoyos brings in Addie Walker to tie the game at the 3-3 in the top of the third. After a sacrifice grounder, two on for Kacey Duffield and she delivers with a two run shot going deep and out. Four runs for Lathrop who take a 6-3 lead over Colony in the top of the third inning.

Lathrop clinches state baseball berth and Hutchison gets a win

FAIRBANKS-In high school baseball the Lathrop Malemutes shutout Delta today in a resounding 14-0 win. The victory secures a state tournament berth for the Malemutes.

Mike Fitzpatrick was a perfect 4-4 with two rbis and tossed six strikeouts from the bump for the Malemutes. Lathrop genertated 16 hits against the Huskies.

Lathrop was coming off a 12-1 win over Monroe last night at Growden Memorial. In Friday's game Matt Van Mueklen led the way throwing eight Ks while going 2-3 with two rbis and scoring three runs.

Two Malemutes went events at state track meet

ANCHORAGE-News from the ASAA First National Bank High School Track and Field State Championship's at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

The Malemutes had two athletes went gold today. Jared Welch clears six feet six inches to take the gold medal in boys high jump. Welch, a junior, also set a new school record clearing that height.

Also senior To'a Levi, in her first year with Lathrop, won the girls discuss event throwing 123 feet.

Cote wins Legends race by .1

NORTH POLE-Last night at the North Pole Speedway the Bandos and Legends cars got on the track for the second race of the season. It was a photo finish in the Legends class.

Second year driver Austin Cote in 17 car on the high side just barely crossed the finish line before veteran driver Al Trettel who was down low in the 43. Cote won by .1 seconds the tightest of all race finishes.

Sherry of UAF Rifle secures spot on US World team

FORT BENNING, GA-The great shooting numbers continue for members of the Alaska rifle team in the USA Shooting Rifle/Pistol World Championship Selection matches in Fort Benning, Georgia.

Sophomore Tim Sherry won the silver medal in the 50 meter 3 position scoring over 3500 points in three days. Sherry secured his sport on the US World Championship Team. Sherry will also be the only American to shoot in air rifle, prone and 3 position at the first ISSF Jr World Cup in Germany next week.

Memorial Day weekend sports schedule

FAIRBANKS-It's the start of a beautiful Memorial Day weekend. Here's what's going on in the Interior.

Tomorrow lots of high school softball at the South Davis Fields. Six games scheduled.

They start as early as 10 am with Colony taking on Lathrop in the early slot then Cordova and Hutchison have game two of their double header at 11:45.

Region VI track and field champion Lathrop eyes possible state crown

FAIRBANKS-The ASAA First National Bank Track and Field Championships start tomorrow at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

Lathrop leads the Interior state qualifiers with 31-16 boys and 15 girls with seven relay teams West Valley has 21 athletes-12 boys and nine girls and five relays.
North Pole has six qualifiers and a relay team.

Delta leads 1-3A with nine total state qualifiers which include five girls and four boys with three relays teams. Eielson has eight (five boys and three girls).
