Goldpanners sweep Bucs right after All-Star break

ANCHORAGE-The Alaska Goldpanners stayed in Anchorage after the All-Star weekend to take on the Anchorage Bucs in a double header to start their final week of the regular season on Monday night.

Ryan Clark came up big for Alaska scoring the game winning run in the top of the 8th of game one for a 2-1 win. He had two hits and drove in a crucial run in the low scoring affair.

In game two the Panners held on for a 3-2 win in seven innings. Jacob Hayes had two crucial rbis and a run.

UAF releases 2014-2015 swimming schedule

FAIRBANKS-Yesterday UAF swimming head coach Scott Lemley released the 2014-2015 schedule which has a variety of opponents.

Nanook fans can get their first look at the team on Oct. 11 for the Blue Gold Pentathlon at the Patty Center. Their first Intercollegiate meet is at home Oct.17 and 18 against Azusa Pacific.

UAF will be in the Husky Invitational in Federal Way, Washington Dec 5-7. The Nooks start the New Year on the road in Coronado, California for a quad meet against three division three programs: Wisconsin Eau-Claire, Williamette University and Whitworth College.

Alaska teams adds two Europeans to their women's team

FAIRBANKS-The UAF ski team continues to add some talent to their women's squad. Anne-Tine Markset and Annie Uhl will be Nanooks this upcoming season.

Markset hails from Oslo, Norway and is transferring in from the University of Denver. The Pioneers won the national title last year and she raced 4 times before an injury ended her season. She'll have three years left to ski at UAF. Markset was a top 25 finisher in the 2012 World Junior Championships for Norway before going to Denver. She will major in psychology.

Former Big 12 champion joins UAF cross country coaching staff

FAIRBANKS-So there a number of new players coming to UAF how about another new coach? Aislinn Ryan will join UAF's cross country program as an assistant coach intern for this season.

Ryan comes from Warwick New York. She was a part of the University of Colorado's back to back Big 12 Championship teams in 06' and 07'. The Buffaloes were the national runner up in 06. Ryan also won the Foot Locker high school cross country national title in 2004.

Krause and Stagdon sweep at GFRA races

FAIRBANKS-Kirk Krause swept the modified class holding off points leader Scott Sluka on Saturday night. Krause wasn't the only driver to lower the broom on the dirt track at the Mitchell Raceway on Saturday night.Chris Stagdon swept the dollar stock races as well.

John Clarkson went 2-3 in the Sportsman class with a main event win.

Toughest loss goes to Joe Heath. He lead the whole main event for the mini-bombers but lost a tire late giving Clutchall his second win of the night. There were no sprint class races on Saturday.

Meggert and Hill King and Queen of Volleyball tournament

FAIRBANKS-The final event of the local summer volleyball season for the King and Queen of the Beach Sand Volleyball Tournament took place over the weekend.

Gavin Meggert won his first crown after finishing fourth a number of times. He won a tie breaker by two points over Brad Krupa in the final. Mike Quinn, Spencer McLeod were the other finalists.

Eieleen Keller was the Queen going 3-0.

Lathrop's Meckel ties world record at WEIO

FAIRBANKS-It seems that the final night of WEIO also has very special and historic moments and this year would be no different.

In the one foot high kick Alaskan style event Autumn Ridley of Anchorage and Erica Meckel of Fairbanks were the final two in contention. The two thought they were going for the world record in their final kicks but actually they both tied the world record at 84 inches on their previous successful kicks to their surprise.

Wolter brothers commit to Wisconsin hockey program

FAIRBANKS-Two brothers will back on the ice this fall as teammates. Colton and Jacob Wolter verbally committed to play their college hockey for the BlueGolds of the University of Wisconsin Eau-Claire.

The BlueGolds are a Division III program in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The BlueGolds won the NCAA title in 2013 and have won the last two WIAC championships.
