First All Comers Track Meet results

FAIRBANKS-About 20 runners made it out to West Valley for the first All-Comers Track meet of the year.

The event at West Valley is in its 38th year and the dedicated runners were out in the rain for the 1, 2, 4 and 800 meter races, the mile, 3000 and 5000 meters.

Cedar Gray won the men's 100 meters in 12.6 seconds. Runner up David Brannan finished in 13.2 but he won the 400 in 1:05.5

Roger Sayre won the 800 in 2:29. Ted Alder won the mile and 5000 meter races while Rob Baker won the 3000 meters.

Eclipse soccer teams in Anchorage for tournament

ANCHORAGE-12 Eclipse soccer teams are in Anchorage this weekend for the Alaska Airlines Cup. The tournament starts today and ends Sunday.

Over 170 Interior soccer players will be playing for the Cup in various age groups.

The Eclipse 99 Girls team and the Phoenix 99 boys teams will travel to Morgan, California after the Alaska Airlines Cup to play in the Region IV President's Cup on June 9.

Running and cycling highlight weekend sports schedule

FAIRBANKS-Now a rundown of what's going this weekend for Interior Sports. More Tour of Fairbanks stages.

Saturday at 10 am is the Steese Time Trial. That's a 30K race. Then at 2 pm is the Steese Road Race. A 65 miles ride for experts and 44 miles for other classes. Both of those races will star at the US Creek Road Turnout at 57.5 Mile Steese Highway.

Also on Saturday morning the Alyeska Track and Field games for kids born from 2001 to 2008. That's at Lathrop High School at 10 a.m.

Lathrop and West Valley baseball lose close ones at state tournament

SITKA-Today the Lathrop Malemutes and West Valley Wolfpack played their opening games of the ASAA First National Bank Alaska State Baseball Tournament.

Lathrop was ahead 5-1 in the fifth inning but the Colony Knights came back to tie the game at five all going into the 6th inning.

It was tied 6-6 going into the 7th but completes the comeback and wins 7-6 over Lathrop snappnig the Malemutes 10 game winning streak.

Lathrop falls into the consolation bracket and will play Juneau or South tomorrow morning.

Youg Patriots team heading to state softball tournament

FAIRBANKS-The upstart North Pole Patriots will take their number one seed into the small schools softball state tournament. The Patriots only had one loss in conference play as they ran through the Mid Alaska Conference.

North Pole plays Ketchikan, the South Eastern two seed, on Friday at 1 p.m. The winner gets Northern Lights Champion Kodiak at 3:30.

Hawks make second trip to state softball tourney in three years

FAIRBANKS-One of two MAC teams are going to the state tournament and one is Hutchison. The Hutchison Hawks are young but experienced when it comes to the state tournament. This is their second state berth in the team's three year existence.

How did they get here? Hutchison finished second in the MAC with 7-5 record but gave North Pole their only conference loss this season. That win gave Hutch the confidence that they can compete and win against tough teams.

Nanooks land a record four on Capital One Academic All-American Team

FAIRBANKS-Well there are some pretty heady Nanooks at UAF. Alaska landed a school record 4 student athletes to the Capital One Academic All-American Team.

Ryan Anderson and Mats Eriksson of the rifle team, Danielle Lyons of the swimming team, who is also the first swimmer to be a Capital One Academic All-American and Alyson McPheteres of the ski team represent UAF. All four have at least 3.9 GPAs in their respective majors.
