Post rain out Goldpanners on the road for 6 games

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska Goldpanners are on their way to Anchorage today for a six game road trip. Tomorrow night they will face the Anchorage Bucs in the series finale of their five gamer. The series is tied 2-2 after the Goldpanners come from behind 5-4 victory on Monday night. The fifth game was supposed to have been on Tuesday night but it was rained out.

After the fifth game of the Bucs series Alaska will play the Chugiak Chinooks for a three game series and the Matsu Miners for two games. This will be the first meeting between the Chinooks and Miners this summer.

First day of Iditarod sign ups gets 60 signatures

WASILLA-It may be summer time but dog mushing teams and kennels are preparing for the winter's dog mushing season which includes the big one-the Iditarod.

Saturday in Wasilla was the opening day of sign ups for the 43rd Iditarod. 60 mushers signed up including four time winner Lance Mackey who returns after not mushing last year.

Martin Buser and Jeff King, two other four time winners, signed up as well as defending champion Dallas Seavey and three time runner up Aily Zirkle.

Goldpanners beat Bucs at their own game to even series

FAIRBANKS-Last night in Growden Memorial Park the Alaska Goldpanners bucked a recent trend against of all teams the Anchorage Bucs.

The Bucs owned the topside of the scoreboard after Dylan Butler's bases clearing double with the sacs loaded the Bucs were up 3-0 after one.

The Panners were down 4-1 and still trailed going into the 7th as both teams defense made it hard to score. Ethan Manarino threw seven innings with two earned and five KS for the Bucs while Alaska fielded well.

Meggerts repeats as Midnight Sun volleyball champion

FAIRBANKS-On Saturday next to Growden Memorial Park local volleyball players took to the courts for the 4th Annual Midnight Sun Sand Volleyball Tournament.

Gavin Meggert successfully defended his Midnight Sun Sand Volleyball Tournament title with Nicolaus Andresen. Their only loss was to Raleigh Bartholomew and Ryan Howdeshell. In the first game of the double elimination final but Meggert and Anderson won the winner-take-all game.

Third place went Ishmael Agae and Spencer McLeod. Jessica Hill and Julie Gilhuly played in the men's division and placed fourth.

Feierabend wins Sluice Box 100

FAIRBANKS-On Sunday evening one of the toughest outdoor races in the Interior finished promptly at 7 p.m. at the FE Gold Camp. The Sluice Box 100 started on Saturday morning at the Musher's Hall on Farmer's Loop Road. Runners, bikers and relay teams had 36 hours to complete the 100 mile race.

A local Wedensday Night Ski racer ended up coming in first in the men's solo bike class. Dash Feierabend won this year's Sluice Box 100 coming through the nine legs and five checkpoints in 13 hours 15 minutes and 46 seconds.

Renfrew and Burks win FGA Senior Amateur titles

FAIRBANKS-After two days of golfing on two different local golf courses-the North Star Golf Club and the Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright, the Fairbanks Golf Association Senior Amateur Championships results are in.

Bill Renfrew is the men's senior amateur and super senior champion. Renfrew shot a 152 gross and a 134 net score to take this year's title.

The highlight of the weekend was Tom Chadwick hitting on hole in one on the 8th hole at Chena Bend. Chadwick placed second. Paul Lindhag was placed third overall.
