Patriots and Ravens ranked 3rd and 4th in preseason football poll

FAIRBANKS-The high school football season is already here. Well not quite but when preseason polls start coming out that means it's definitely coming up soon.

Here is the 2014 Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network's Large, Medium, and Small schools preseason poll. In the medium and small schools preseason poll some local love.

Upcoming start dates for fall prep sports

FAIRBANKS-The high school football season isn't the only fall prep sport that's about to start. Cross country will begin this weekend. On Saturday at the West Ridge trails the West Valley Wolfpack will have the West Valley Invitational at 10 a.m. to start their season.

You can't forget about the new sport-flag football. Official practices started yesterday for the ladies. Lathrop, North Pole, Hutchison and West Valley are looking to field teams this fall for flag football. A schedule is still in the works.

AISG continues this week with some interesting sports on deck

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska International Senior Games have some interesting events coming up on the schedule as the games continue.

Pickleball took place this afternoon starting three days of pickleball action with men's and women's singles as well as doubles and mixed doubles play. Bowling and Cycling highlight tonight's events.

There will be a 10K run tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Chena Lakes Recreation Area. Archery will take place tonight and tomorrow at the UAF Archery Range at 6 pm.

99-year-old participates in one of AISG's headline events

FAIRBANKS-Today the 11th Alaska International Senior Games continued and Weeks Field was the site for arguably one of the most popular sports of AISG.Bocce.

Bocce is essentially curling on grass and the interest has been growing much like pickle ball another popular event among seniors. 120 competitors signed up for Bocce this year setting a new record for participants.

Arnold and Macleod win Alaska State Senior Am Golf titles

FAIRBANKS-Sunday was the final day of the Alaska State Senior Amateur Championship at Chena Bend Golf Course.

William Arnold (227) out of Anchorage held on for a three stroke win for the men's championship highlighted by a 72 on day two. Peter Hakes (230) took second. Randy Merrill shot a 72 on Sunday and jumped from eighth to third (232).

Susie Macleod is this year's women's champion. Her total score of 240 included a championship flight best score of 78 on day two. Teresa Fisher (256) was second and Cathy Shuttleworth finished third (268).

Local soccer teams win medals in AK Youth Soccer Cup

FAIRBANKS-A big soccer tournament was hosted by the Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association this weekend. The Alaska Youth Soccer State Cup had 27 teams from all over the state came to Fairbanks for the tournament which featured U12 up to U18 squads.

Among the notables the Eclipse 2000 team won the U15 girls State Cup with a 2-1 win over the Alaska Rush in Sunday's final.

The Fairbanks U12 boys team the Fairbanks Rush won the boys title shutting out the Alaska Rush 2-0. The Fairbanks Rush also won the U14 boys crown.

Larranaga and Nanook volleyball team look towards a new start in 2014

FAIRBANKS-There is no where to go but up for the Nanook volleyball team in 2014. Last season the Nooks went 4-25 overall winning three conference games. That was head coach Mallory Larranaga's first season as head coach. It was just as much a learning experience for her as it was for the team.

Lathrop sweeps Delta in first volleyball game

FAIRBANKS-Last night at Joe T Court the Lathrop Malemutes took the court for the first time. Not the basketball team but the volleyball team. They had their season opener in a non-conference game against the Delta Junction Huskies.

Lathrop came out strong with 25-5 win in the opening set. Cheyenne Dibert, the sophomore set the tone with 8 kills and 8 aces to lead Lathrop.
Nadine Velasco got in on the action as well with a nice spike.

The Huskies showed some life in the second set but the Mutes were able to hold them off for a 25-16 decision in the second set.
