Week Two High School Football Polls

FAIRBANKS-Now let's take a look at the week two high school football polls.

No change in the medium-small schools poles. Sohi is first, then Juneau Douglas, followed by North Pole and Eielson and Nikiski. All of the teams ranked won their season openers.

In the large schools poll West is still on top. South is second then Bartlett jumps to third for their first appearance in the polls. Service and Colony round out the large schools top 5 week 2 poll.

Patriots host Ketchikan for Wednesday night football

NORTH POLE-The North Pole Patriots football team will be doing something this week that the New England Patriots will be doing this season and that's getting through a short week.

Most NFL teams will have a Sunday and then A Thursday night game. Well North Pole came off a 41-35 victory over the West Valley Wolfpack in a classic high scoring game this past Friday night. Tomorrow the Patriots will host the Ketchikan Kings at Patriot Pride Field in the first Southeastern conference game for both teams. Wednesday is also first day of school so kickoff is at 6 p.m.

Loaded weekend of sports in the Interior

FAIRBANKS-This weekend is a busy one for local sports. Here's a few things going on.

Eielson hosts Seward in their home opener tomorrow at 1 p.m. Lathrop takes on Kenai at 7 p.m. in high school football. West Valley is at Colony this week for a Friday night game. Monroe is at Barrow this Saturday.

The prep volleyball starts at 5:30 on Saturday when Monroe hosts West Valley.

Saturday morning at 9 a.m. there will be a shotgun start for the 14th Fairbanks Ice Dogs Golf Scramble at the Fairbanks Golf Course.

Hutchison flag football team anxious for season to start

FAIRBANKS-The flag football season is almost ready to start here in the Interior and the Hutchison Hawks are anxious to get the season going.

Head coach Ronda Driscoll will be entering here first year at the helm. She's an avid college football fan and is an Oregon Duck to the core. She has a roster of 15 already sees where the Hawks can be effective.

Lathrop and Monroe wins tennis matches

FAIRBANKS-In high school sports last evening there were more early season tennis matches.

In the battle of the dogs the Lathrop Malemutes won 4-3 over West Valley. Lathrop's Amara Hackett improves to 2-0 and Jared Lees of West Valley's continues his unbeaten MAC streak.

Eielson's only player John Rice, won 6-1, 6-0 over Jacob Rauenhorst of Monroe but the Rams defeat Hutch 5-2.

Weekend sports rundown

FAIRBANKS-Let's take a look at what's going this weekend for Interior sports.

Tomorrow there is an early high school football game. Eielson hosts Voznesenka at 10 a.m. on Buck Nystrom Field. Also the Monroe Rams take on no.4 Nikiski at 1 pm at Kiwanis Field right behind the Big Dipper.

In cross country the Interior Invitational starts at 11 a.m. with the girls' race. The boys race is at 11:45 a.m. at the Birch Hill Rec Area.

For high school swimming it will be day two of the Lathrop Invitational at the Hamme Pool on Saturday. That begins at 11 a.m.

Malemutes look for first win against Kenai on Saturday

FAIRBANKS-The Lathrop football team aims to bounce back this weekend against their week two opponent.

The Kardinals of Kenai Central will be in Lathrop Stadium this Saturday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff for their second straight road game.

Kenai lost to Juneau-Douglas 28-15 last week. Both teams are looking for their first wins of the season.
