FAIRBANKS, AK-the Alaska Nanook Rifle team recently released it's schedule for the upcoming fall season. The shooters will also have their first matches in the newly formed Patriot Rifle Conference.The Nanooks start the season with a fun Alumni Match on September 28 as former shooters come back to take on the current roster.
FAIRBANKS, AK-It's June already and the sun has been out for the most part now that spring is here. So that's mean the Midnight Sun run is right around the corner. Bib pick up for the 31st annual Midnight Sun Run is tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Pioneer Park Civic Center. The race starts June 22 at 10 p.m. that's next Saturday. The beginning of the 10K course is at the UAF Patty Center and ends at Pioneer Park. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Fairbanks Resource Agency and local student athletes through scholarships.
FAIRBANKS, AK-The Tour of Fairbanks cycling event concluded on Sunday with Tyson "The Hammer" Flaharty of Fairbanks winning his second Tour of Fairbanks crown. Flaharty, who raced for Goldstream sports came in a close second for this stage to Richard Tilton of Kaladi-Subway but had great runs in Thursday's hill climb and the time trail on the Steese Highway on Saturday morning to have the overall lead.
FAIRBANKS, AK-Over the weekend the Alaska Goldpanners opened their season on the road in the Barona Bash Tournament in the Lakeside, California area. Their first game of the season against the Oceanside Waves on Friday ended in a peculiar 2-2 tie. The game was called by the umpires at the end of the ninth inning.
FAIRBANKS, AK- 14-year old Keel Simon was the first place winner in Sunday's annual 5-and-10k run sponsored by Lu Lu's Bread and Bagel's Bakehouse located in West Fairbanks.
Simon, who will be running for the West Valley Wolfpack in the Fall is an avid runner who has finished near the top in a number of local races.
Participants in the Bagel Run ran a flat 5-K course, but not so much for the 10-k which had hills that climbed up to the Chena Goldstream Fire Department, then descended through neighborhoods and trails to the start and finish line.
