Todd and Trettel win North Pole Speedway titles

NORTH POLE-The final race of the 2014 North Pole Speedway season was last night. This last race was also Making Strides against Breast Cancer night. Half of last night's proceeds wento to Making Strides.

But for the drivers it as about Destiney Todd and All Trettel.

There was a wreck in the first heat of Bandos driving and Whitney Parzick had some issues in the second heat but Todd was able to navigate through a nine-car Bandos class for a sweep.

Then Trettel took two out of three in Legends class.

Fighters take part in Midnight Sun Mayhem event

FAIRBANKS-This one is for all you fighting fans. Saturday at the Tanana Valley Fairgrounds was the Midnight Sun Mayhem event. The event featured Boxing, Thai Boxing and mixed martial arts bouts in the Borealis Pavilion. 14 fights were on the card.

How about this name? Billy the Hebrew Hammer Zimmerman won by decision in his boxing match.

In kickboxing the knockout of the night went to Jovan Askew. His vicious combo layed out Jack Syler in the first round of their bout.

Now for the unorthodox Thomas Hodge aka Afro Samurai connects with a flying elbow in his victory.

Lockwood wins largest class in mud bog state championships, other winners

FAIRBANKS-Here esults from this past weekend's two day Parrish Racing mud bog state championships from the North Pole Speedway.

Jennifer Johnson was the Class 1 champion with an average time of 30.1 seconds and a total time of 120.4 in three races. Bobby Lockwood won the title in the largest class-class 2 with a total time of 48.9 and average time of 12.23 seconds.

Ice Dogs first scrimmage of training camp displayed skill and goaltending

FAIRBANKS-The Fairbanks Ice Dogs had their first scrimmage of training camp at the Patty Center on Sunday. Hundreds of fans came out to see the new team. It was Maroon versus White.

Returning goalie Patrick Munson and rookie Drew Michals put on a show in the first of two 28 minute periods with a series of nice saves.

Lathrop holds on for a 7-6 win over Kenai, football scores

FAIRBANKS-The Lathrop Malemutes faced a tough Kenai team on Saturday. The Mutes were in a dogfight with the Kardinals as there was no score until the start of the fourth quarter and that was by Kenai's Chase Logan. This 32 yard TD run gave Kenai a 6-0 lead but the xp was blocked that would be huge.

Just 1:06 later it took just three plays for Lathrop to respond. Glenn Maiden and Nate Barnett connected twice. The second was a 41 touchdown pass to Barnett. The duo would connect again with the snap and the hold for the extra point.

Two Monroe volleyball players reach 1,000 career mark in opener

FAIRBANKS-The high school volleyball season started Saturday night at Boileau Hall. The Monroe Rams hosted the West Valley Wolfpack a matchup between the MAC Champion Wolfpack and Aurora Champion Rams.

Both teams getting the kinks out in the first set but Monroe would win it 25-19. The Rams would get into a rhythm in the second set Marissa King had four of her 8 kills in the second set as the Rams rolled 25-10.

Loaded weekend of sports in the Interior

FAIRBANKS-This weekend is a busy one for local sports. Here's a few things going on.

Eielson hosts Seward in their home opener tomorrow at 1 p.m. Lathrop takes on Kenai at 7 p.m. in high school football. West Valley is at Colony this week for a Friday night game. Monroe is at Barrow this Saturday.

The prep volleyball starts at 5:30 on Saturday when Monroe hosts West Valley.

Saturday morning at 9 a.m. there will be a shotgun start for the 14th Fairbanks Ice Dogs Golf Scramble at the Fairbanks Golf Course.

Hutchison flag football team anxious for season to start

FAIRBANKS-The flag football season is almost ready to start here in the Interior and the Hutchison Hawks are anxious to get the season going.

Head coach Ronda Driscoll will be entering here first year at the helm. She's an avid college football fan and is an Oregon Duck to the core. She has a roster of 15 already sees where the Hawks can be effective.
