    Roller Derby team suffers some trauma

    FAIRBANKS, AK-Over the weekend our local roller derby team was in action. The Fairbanks Rollersgirls All-Stars took on Blunt Force Trauma. What a name and unfortunately they lived up to it.

    Blunt Force Trauma out of Bellingham Washington had a dominate performance winning 379-82 and led 205-27 at halftime.

    The next roller derby event will be the inaugural United We Roll Alaska State Tournament starting May 17th at the Carlson Center. Teams from Alaska and Yukon are slated to participate.

    Track meet canceled

    FAIRBANKS, AK- A mini meet was scheduled for this Saturday the sixth at North Pole high school but it was been canceled due to weather. This was confirmed in an email sent by Steve Zanazzo the activities coordinator at Lathrop High School.

    The Big C Relays will be going on April 5th in Anchorage with interior teams like Monroe, Eielson, Lathrop, and Hutchison slated to participate.

    Upcoming Recreational Sports Opportunities

    FAIRBANKS, AK- For the recreation sports lovers there are some opportunities to take advantage of especially for the skiers. Tomorrow night at 6:45 pm up on Birch Hill, will be the sixth installment of the Wednesday Night Race Series. The teams in these events consists of a youth, master, and adult skier. Teams can be made at the starting line. Youth and adults can ski for multiple teams.

    On April 10th the 10 K race is important because that decides the year's race division leaders. Individual results will go towards the Team-Event division points.

    UAA Hockey coach is out

    ANCHORAGE, AK-There is some hockey news coming out of Anchorage. UAA Seawolves head coach Dave Shyiak will not return as head coach for UAA next season.

    It has not been confirmed if Shyiak was fired or asked to resign after the university's announcement of the decision on Friday.

    The Seawolves had just four wins this season. In his eight seasons as head coach of the UAA hockey program, Shyiak's record was 76-156-26.

    The Anchorage school is already conducting a national search for a new coach.

    West Valley boys lose second soccer game

    ANCHORAGE, AK-In boys soccer the West Valley stumbleS out of the blocks with another loss to start the season. After a 2-1 loss to Wasilla on Thursday the Wolfpack fall to the Colony Knights by the same score this past Friday.

    No team scored until the 49th minute of the second half and that was by Colony who also scored at the 58th minute. Sterling Kuhl scored West Valley's lone goal in the 2-1 decision.

    The Wolfpack will be back in Anchorage in 3 weeks for three games against East, Chugiak and Service.
