NAHL forward commits to UAF for 2015-2016

FAIRBANKS-The Alaska hockey team has 6 players coming in the fall but they are continuing to build the future. Yesterday Tyler Cline committed to UAF hockey for the 2015-2016 season.

Cline is a forward from Blaine High School in Blaine, Minnesota. He has 129 points in 100 career games.

At the end of his senior year in March Cline played in the last couple of games for the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL. He signed a tender to play for Midwest division team for the 2014-2015 season.

Interior softball teams split in first games in the valley

COLONY-Interior softball teams had some road games in the Valley last night.

The Lathrop Malemutes came away with a 6-4 win over Wasilla in five innings.

Kacey Duffield had 9 Ks, allowed two hits and two walks in four innings of work. She also got her 200th strikeout.

Abi Walker had two rbis and Kimi Duffield went 2-2 with a single and a double.

West Valley was close but Colony got a 10-9 win a game that all about offense. 23 hits between the two teams.

Kellsea Hendrie went 3-4 with four rbi and a double to lead the Wolfpack in the loss.

Thursday soccer results, West Valley avenges loss

FAIRBANKS-Last night there was a rematch in high school boys soccer. North Pole versus West Valley.

Josh Million of the Patriots was coming off a five goal game against Lathrop but had zero last night.

West Valley's Shane Gillete drew enough contact from North Pole's Ben Davis to get a call in the box. Connor Smith went for the penalty kick and put enough on it even though North Pole goalie Tayler Deangles got two mits on it. West Valley had a 1-0 lead two minutes in.

Nice weather makes for could conditions for weekend sports

FAIRBANKS-Sun is up. Temperatures in the 60s. Sounds like a lot of weekend sports events.

Tomorrow at 10 am the 33rd Annual Chena River Run starts at WoodRiver Elementary and ends at the Princess Hotel.

Noon is the hour for high school sports. The Monroe Rams play North Pole on Newby Field in boys soccer.
The West Valley girls host Eielson at noon.

Day two of the second region 6 high school track and field meet is at Lathrop at 12:30.

UAF sports banquet tomorrow night.

FAIRBANKS-Tomorrow evening the Alaska Nanook Department of Athletics will put a bow on the 2013-2014 season with the All Sports Banquet. It's in the Gold Room of the Westmark Hotel and Convention Center.

All of the 10 athletic programs will recognize their most valuable players and the department will give out prestigious awards like the Bart Lebon Humanitarian Award, Joe Tremarello Sportsmanship award and the Most Outstanding Female and Male Athletes of the year.

Ice Dogs feel prepared this weekend's Robertson Cup semifinal

FAIRBANKS-Tomorrow night in the Big Dipper the Ice Dogs will take on the Michigan Warriors in the Robertson Cup semifinals.

The Ice Dogs have earned some much needed rest after going through two brutal 5 games series that came down to series ending overtime goals but Kyle Lee in two game fives.

Michigan is rested as well but hasn't been challenged too much winning by an average of 2.6 goals. They also had a triple OT win. A 1-0 victory over Port Huron-their only one of the postseason.

The rookie Mapp leads Monroe in MAC softball opener

FAIRBANKS-Last night in high school softball the Monroe Rams defeated the defending MAC champion Eielson Ravens 6-3. It was the conference opener for both teams.

Monroe was led by freshman Savannah Mapp. In just her second varsity start Mapp went the distance tossing a one-hitter in a complete game with eight Ks and three earned runs.

Alexa Ellis had a double and three rbis. Jamie Haman added a couple of rbis as well.

The Rams are 1-1, 1-0 in the MAC and Eielson falls to 0-2.

Lathrop girls soccer now 5-0, West Valley boys get a win

FAIRBANKS-Last night in high school sports one team is starting to position themselves as the top team. At Lathrop high school the girls soccer team continued their winning ways.

Lathrop was up 5-0 over Eielson at the half and put up another three in the second half.

Moriah Flynn got one of those second half goals and a nice high arching goal going over the goalie's head from Christina Mondelli.
